Hi Shawn,

RH> It was; Steve had picked up some packets of rice and rice with quina at
RH> Wegman's so we decided to try one of the latter. It's basically
RH> precooked, all you do is put it in the microwave for 90 seconds, let it
RH> stand for a minute. Surprisingly good, and an easy addition to any
RH> meal. It went well with the chicken that I'd sprinkled with adobo
RH> seasoning and put in the crock pot with a bit of chicken broth.

SH> I've seen those packets but never pulled the trigger yet.  I might
SH> though as I am not in the mood to cook or do much of anything when I
SH> get home from work.  I'll go reading labels next time I'm at the
SH> store.

Time was, and not so long ago, that I'd never consider such a thing.
But, the older I get, the more I'm trying things like this. Convenience,
especially when not feeling well, in cooking wins out over longer
cooking stuff that needs a lot of fuss. If I were younger I would have
tried to make my own version, cooking rice and quina, then combining and
seasoning them. I  might yet, once I get back to full steam. Might cook,
then dehydrate a couple of cups of both to make my own "instant"
version--we tried it with rice and it came out good upon rehydration.

RH> except working on getting better. I think now I can tackle something
RH> extra, as long as I do it in short sessions.

SH> Exactly.  Slow return to normal.

Which is why I've still not gotten back to a number of things. Might
tackle the baby quilt this week, promised a friend I'd teach her to sew
in a couple of weeks.

RH> Weather would be about the same either time over there, maybe a bit
RH> hotter in July than September. Price of tickets is the big unknown
RH> right now as it's still 3 years out.

SH> Might be the way to go then.  Even if September is a hundred cheaper
SH> that's $100 in your pocket.

Which was the cost of a hotel room at the Armed Forces Recreation Center
hotel on Waikiki when we were there in the early 2000s.

RH> back to HI in May and verified that 2 of the 3 places are still going
RH> strong. The seafood place is the one she didn't know about.

SH> I'm sure it would still be there.  May have to google it though to be
SH> sure.

And check out the menu, see how much it has changed in 20 years. (G)

SH> ... Ignore your health and it will go away.

I know that for sure, especially this year. (G)
