Interesting. When I worked as a beer tender at the Elbow Room I once
had an old, tatty, customer who ordered a glass of gin over ice. No
chaser. Then a "suit" came in and ordered an "extra-dry" Martini -
which I made by using a straw as an eyedropper to add a single drop of
Martini & Rossi dry vermouth to the Gilbey's gin. After about three of
those the "suit" began to get loud and somewhat obnoxious berating the
smelly workingmen in their sweaty clothes as if he was the arbiter of
all things proper.

I asked him, just to put a damper on his gob before one of my regular
(workman) customers clocked him one upside his jaw "Do you have any
idea what the difference between you and that (pointing to the old guy
nursing his glass of iced gin) is? Just a single tiny drop of Vermouth!"

Taking umbrage he tossed back the last of his drink a left. Problem
solved.
