Together
We lizards so love the Muses
The Muses so love the Arts
With the Arts they are amused
We muse on with the lizards
The Plastic Lizard
I knead in my so tiny hands
A very clever piece of bread
Sweaty flute or sweaty pancake
-- Am I painter or architect?
The Lyric Lizard
Yes it's me the lizard lyric
And behold my art poetic
I take a verse from my pocket
I take it with a pinch of salt
Yes behold my art poetic
The Musical Lizard
The musical toads stronger
Modulate by the water
Me I'm no less musical
Singing after a glass of ale
The Dance Lizard
With my paw agile
I trace a symbol
The gesture's simple
But mind is playful
The Epic Lizard
I sing of the feats of Perseus Arsacid
Our ancestors they did eat of the greenest grapes
And their sons' teeth were so sensative
These were our ancestors the lizards of acid
The Astronomic Lizard
From Vega to Aldabaran
I move there my telescope
My calculations are for naught
But only to produce awe
The Mathematical Lizard
Four and four is eight and one makes nine
This lizard is small like an ox
91 and 9 makes 100
This lizard is strong as a fly
A Virgin
I am of the family
Of the lizard eels
My name is Petrony
Oh it's ugly so ugly
The Forth Lizard
In all things I am the fourth
I am measured in tetrads
I come right after the third
And I precede the Pentad
All Together
We lizards so love the Muses
The Muses so love the Arts
With the Arts they are amused
We muse on with the lizards
With stomach to the ground and back to the sun
Our tails extend outward and calm down our brain
We taste the repose of the everyday and same
At the dissolving of sugar within the water
The Muses
Gentle lizards love the walls
We slumber within these lizards
And we hide your love
In these tender mansards
Gentle lizards you go slipping
Upon the fine leaves
Open your eyes open
And forfeit your tails
Gentle lizards oh when you sing
Even when your mouth opens
Only mosquitos watching
We're with another beast
The Jester Lizard
I'm certainly aghast
We'll hunt that elephant
(Exunt Muses. Pause.)
Together
We're now without Muses
This will be a hassle
Since the ennui we use
Poorer be it will
The Lizard of Prayer
Come back among us oh Muses so forgiving
And oh pardon us of this little bitty jest
These poems, hollow this prose devoid of meaning
But in all of our words there's not one bit of darkness
The Muses
We must accept this most heartfelt prayer of all
Repairing the path that yesterday we fallowed
(The Muses return. Pause. Now it is night)
Someone
At night the animals race among the marshes
The newt and the frog both emerge from the water
Wreathed crowns of fog dissolve there amongst the trees
And the leaves descend there upon the deaf pathways
The insect the spider advance so very slow
The toads by chance just might swallow up one of them
And wipe off their mouths with the very humid leaves
Those which rot beside the marshes' ragged edges
No light, the water's surface still gives off a glow
The phosphor pales the shadows of vegetation
Cloud cadavers entombed within the dark of night
In the night houses crumble away like plaster
The mountain deflates itself into granite depths
The flint falls away the limestone becomes pastry
There are marshes of gneiss and are marshes of lead
Marshes of the Marne that drip into the forest
Entire herds abandoned to the opaque mud
The town disappears under the magma of mist
The marshes stretch far across the entire world
From the marshes' depths arising to the surface
A bubble which explodes when it arrives
at surface
This bubble which explodes is thus in the night
It is the night
All Together
We lizards so love the Muses
The Muses so love the Arts
With the Arts they are amused
We muse on with the lizards
(It is the morning. The lizards go to heat themselves in the sun.)
