The games industry doesn't seem to know what a remaster is
Just a short log, but I've been seeing video games getting "remasters" and "remakes" a lot, and many are using the two interchangably.
It seems to be that game publishers and players alike don't have the foggiest idea that those are are 2 different things, and are used incorrectly, and it's annoying me.
A remake is a game remade from the ground up, with new assets and code, a remaster is where you physically grab the original, and touch it up.
Think about films and music for a bit to see what I mean. You can get the original Robocop on Blu-Ray, scaled up and cleaned up, that's a remaster. Then you have Robocop 2012, that's a remake. See what I mean.
Activision are the most notable example of doing it wrong, The Crash N-Sane trilogy, which Activision themselves call a remaster, from what I can see, looks completely different, which means it's not a remaster, it's a remake. You dunces! The same seems to be true for Spyro Reignited and Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1+2.
If those are actually based off the original code, then I will eat my words, but it definitely doesn't look like they are.
Sega, on the other hand, is a company I can think of that actually remaster games, and use the terms correctly, the HD versions of Shenmue 1+2, Sonic Adventure, Sonic Adventure 2, Crazy Taxi, among others, are actually based off the original game, but everything has been enhanced for the newer generations.
Anyway, small rant, wanted to get that off my chest, thanks for wasting your time reading this, I guess?
