We're older and wiser now.
I worked at a company early in my career that fostered the vicious circle of
"work long hours while company pays for dinner, great coffee and diversions,
then you don't have a social life outside of work, spend your time away from
work with co-workers and start dating them."
It was all well and good until the company pivoted and laid off a third of
their staff. Couples were split up, one still working at the company that
had fired their partner.
My co-sysop worked with me at the time. He continually reminded people that
"THE COMPANY IS NOT YOUR FRIEND!"
Your obligation to the company and theirs to you ends with every paycheck.
Once you learn that lesson, work takes on a new meaning.
