I remember doing this many, many moons ago, but I'm not really sure it was WFWG
3.11 or Win9x.  Anyway, I have found some notes from last century that might
help you...

AD> Hi Dean.

AD> I posted up a (couple?) of messages about how to do it all awhile back,
and
AD> there's also other people who've done the same.

AD> Anyway, here's the info again in case the old messages aren't on your BBS
AD> anymore.

AD> Create a 256 color bitmap (.bmp) of 320x400 and place it into the root
AD> directory of your bootup hard drive. (typically C:\)
AD> (A standard 8 bit 256 color is the type to use. Don't use a 16 bit (ie.
AD>  16 million colour pic) because it won't be displayed.)

AD> Rename the pic to logo.sys

AD> Now each time you boot, Win95 will use that pic instead of it's "inbuilt"
AD> one.

AD> The pic _must_ be 320x400 pixels in size or else Win95 will spit the dummy
AD> and just show you text info that Windows is loading. If you use a 320x200
AD> pic, it will be displayed onscreen but will _not_ appear right.
AD> So you'll need to "stretch" any 320x200 pic you want to use, with a
suitable
AD> image processing program (ie. Paintshop Pro) by resizing it to 320x400 and
AD> then saving it as a .bmp file

AD> Beware of the logo.sys file being named with a Win95 long filename. It
AD> _must_ be a standard DOS 8.3 filename and not something like logo.sys.bmp
!
AD> ;-)
AD> If it's anything other than logo.sys, then it won't be used.

AD> BTW, you don't get the colour cycling loading bar at the bottom of your
pic
AD> as Win95 boots up with your new pic so don't panic.  ;-)

AD> Also, on a related topic, there are two files in the Windows directory
AD> called logos.sys and logow.sys
AD> These are standard 256 colour bitmaps (but at 320x400) used by Win95 to
AD> display the "safe to shutdown" and "please wait while shutting down"
AD> screens repectively. You can also change them according to the same
AD> limitations as logo.sys

AD> Any altered versions of logos.sys and logow.sys that you want to use needs
AD> to be in the Windows directory to work. (not C:\)

AD> (Be sure to back them up if you want to use them again if your new screens
AD>  aren't to your liking.)  ;-)

AD> Lastly, if you ever add the Win95 Plus Pack to your system, it will
AD> _replace_ any logo.sys file that you have on your system as your boot up
AD> pic.
