OK, I can only hope that you don't stop Mark's automated messages,
because they are really valuable to all VHF-ers that want to QSO via
Aurora reflections, and those that want to see the Aurora Borealis.
I admit that the published reports are reporting the activity at the
moment the report is sent out, but you can at least see the tendency
of where the auroral activity is moving.
I'm gathering the daily reports into a compressed file, so my users can
either read the single reports as they are published, or to download the
compressed daily file.

If the hum disappears when you disconnect the antenna, it's coming in
that way, and should vary in strength depending on the frequency band.
If it doesn't disappear, check you receiver for faulty electrolytics.
