Common/accepted in email, in my experience.  Not so with BBS messaging.

It's not the "accepted norm" for BBS message exchanging.  You can
believe that, or not, but it's true regardless.

You're right on one thing - you can do it your way if you'd like.  You
will likely find that you'll get pushback like this; or you'll be
ignored and not get replies that you want.  Your choice.
