I doubt that anyone's rights have been violated. The media has nothing to lose by lying about such a thing because there's no way to prove them wrong (or right.) "Sources say.."

A couple things that the media omits come to mind:
1. Permanent residents are held to a higher standard than citizens when it comes to law enforcement BUT..
2. There is still some tolerance, and you can actually still renew your green card after an arrest. The ALJs know the difference between a total POS and a person who made a little mistake.
But the media has a boner for the power they have over people who don't know these things.
