I can tell you what worked for me, I do a number of backups to a usb
drive copy the entire mystic directory then label the folder
mystic_alpha36_march2018.

If anything goes wrong or gets screwed up you always have a reliable back up.
I do not think your error has anything to do with your ssd drive.
each new alpha that is released comes with several helper files whatsnew.txt
and a upgrade.txt. These should aid you in upgrading to Alpha38.
