Minicom is widely available.  Should be able to install it using your
distribution's normal tools (yum, apt, etc).  And SyncTerm also supports
dialup, as well as telnet/SSH/rlogin.  SyncTerm needs to be compiled from
source, so it's a bit more work to get it running.
