How old are we talking about?

Mzilla offers precompiled statically linked binaries for their Firefox browser.
You may download the tarball, uncompress it anywhere in your home and launch it
from there. It has most of its libraries included.

It won't work if the distribution is really old, but maybe it is worth a try.
