Hello Michiel!
MvdV> [...] The job of the FTSC is to document current
MvdV> practise. Some proposals make it to a standard and some
MvdV> do not. If a proposal documents standard practice that
MvdV> has not been covered yet by the FTSC or does it better
MvdV> than existting standards it can be raised to a standard
MvdV> by itself or be incorporated into an existing standard.
MvdV> If it proposes something new or different, the FTSC
MvdV> offers a platform where it can be discussed and an
MvdV> opportunity is given to the submitter to persuade
MvdV> developers to implement his/her ideas into their
MvdV> software. If/when as a result of that proces the
MvdV> proposed /becomes/ current practise the FTSC can raise
MvdV> it to a standard. If it does not become current
MvdV> practise, it does not make it to a standard and remains
MvdV> in the archives for future reference.
Ok.. so, why would Tim's "better idea" be a violation if it may
indeed be a BETTER idea? Why not incorportate it into an
existing standard as BETTER?
