On this point it corresponds to the 1179 IANA endorsed encodings and proper aliases. I wanted something more powerful at my disposal in order to support CP866 and the like. However I haven't done much of that but I do know it works. Also I've run across a few people in my fidonet msg-ing travels in the past who would have appreciated this type of support.
