Your lengthly reply reiterates almost exactly how I feel, and I've said for a
long time that if one really wants to attract newcomers to our hobby, we need
a seriously dumbed-down simple to use message client. We do not need new
packet or nodelist formats or storage formats for mail. Even the concept of
modular deployments of a mailer, tosser, nodelist compiler etc just go over
the heads of everyone.
With many people now re-evaulating social media's place in their lives, it
would be a perfect chance to turn these people to BBS'ing and message nets but
the learning curve is just too much. Only "techie" people would care to jump
through all kinds of hoops to get something running.
