oh there is some. I turned back to IRC few months ago as a trial and I find a lot of fun on MBRserver, EFNET (#metal,#pcgames,#2600) and IRCNET (#revision, and bunch of local Polish)
All I needed is to set up a session and keep it persistent and keep coming back.
I also use localhost irc server at tilde.town but you need to have an account to join that community.
