It depends on where you have it done and what kind. At one of the clinics
in my state, you had a choice. You could do the pill route, which
meant you had to go through most of it without a doctor present, and you
had to make a return visit for a check-up after, or you could have it
done same day, in office. The latter was indeed an invasive procedure but,
barring complications, you did not have to return and you did not have to
wait for the medication to do its thing.

Like I told Dan, the difference between "baby" vs. "foetus" is born on its own
vs. forced-born, or "the mother wanted it" vs. "the mother didn't." That is
not a very scientific difference.
