True. What we know however is, that those Vikings you think of did *not* come from Sweden, they came from Denmark and Norway. Yes, I know, those countries didn't yet exist as such, but I think you get what I mean.
The Swedish Vikings were busy setting up trade routes to Miklag�rd (today Istanbul). On it's way they set up trade stations, the most important was a small village called Kiev. Those Vikings came mostly from Roslagen outside of today's Stockholm, so they were called Ros, later Rus. A thousand years later the kins of those Rus that stayed behind had grown and created what today is called Russia.
