I have never, ever used virus scanning as part of a regular upload routine to
my system. I run a network-wide virus scan once a night to check for things
and in the six years I've run a BBS, I've never once had a virus in an archive
or a file, thankfully.
The only time I ever got viruses was when I opened mail like an idiot without
checking it. Since I'm back to running Windows, I use AVG, which is has a
plugin for OE, that scans all incoming and outgoing mail as it goes in and out
of my system.
