IIRC, that was the big objection to the Silver Xpress/Blue Wave style of
offline reading back in the day. Xpress Response System (XRS) by Mike
Ratledge addressed those issues by relying on the system's echomail processor
to toss replies into the right areas. Unfortunately, the door was never
updated to support JAM message bases, so I had to drop it when I upgraded to
RA 1.00.
