Overall bbsfile's doug was a crooked guy who took cracks and registrations from bbs community members and charged unsuspecting sysops for keyfiles. he justified doing this so he could buy out other bbs doorgames rights. but in a lot of cases he said doing so 'cost him money' so people had to pay a vanity key.
I find it hard to believe a relative or whoever who is watching over bbsfiles.com's domain will be handing out keys to people for free.
it was doug rhea's side business.
There's that archive on vert. i took those files and sat on them for over a decade when i had access to them. that's probably all we will see of bbsfile's reg codes. i doubt people who have his hardware even know where to look for the obscure stuff.
Doug Rhea obviously had a bigger love for the rpg caming community
