Yo!

You are not the one who should be apologizing.  I didn't see the condemnaton of
D'Bridge in Z1C or anywhere else, but since I no longer archive anything
outside my purview, it may have been posted in a place I no longer visit or I
simply missed it.  In any case, whether I missed that despicable notice or not,
I condemn it.

Roger

NA> Due to recent events regarding a false-positive detection with Clam
NA> Anti-Virus, as per the FILEGATE echo I am issuing the following "official
NA> addendum".

NA> D'Bridge does NOT contain a virus, spyware, malware or anything
NA> which would cause apparent emotional stress or issues for someone
NA> who is technically-adept at running a Fido system... specifically a
NA> large mail or File distribution system.

NA> Nor should it cause any concern for someone able to understand the
NA> concept of a false-positive... without deleting files from said
NA> distribution system (essentially being the "nanny" protecting your
NA> system from my actions), or gleefully Netmailing the author telling
NA> him to "clean up his mess".

NA> The virus Clam AV claims my code has, would immediately cause a tell-tale
NA> sign of infection on a Windows computer the moment D'Bridge is
NA> installed. Specifically modifying system files and generally
NA> causing things to "not be right". Given that the false-positive has
NA> existed for quite some time, prior to SR13, and here we are May
NA> 28th 2017, I would say its safe to assume that the problem is with
NA> Clam AV, and not a "mess" that I have to "clean up".

NA> So the author hereby apologises that recent code updates trigger the sky
NA> to be falling for an open-source anti-virus program while every
NA> other anti-virus solution on the planet gives the okay...
NA> specifically Enterprise-grade anti-virus products.

NA> The author also apologises that the operator of a major mail and file
NA> distribution systme had to involve their spouse to test my executable
NA> code despite clear evidence of a false-positive, despite my logical
NA> and factual explanation, and the fact that theres no way I could
NA> EVER publish something nefarious without incurring the lifelong
NA> wrath of every single Sysop in Fidonet. Apparently believing the
NA> words and actions of someone who has been developing Fido software
NA> and tools since 1994, and running a major mail system of his own,
NA> using his own software, is not good enough.

NA> The author also apologises for hearing nothing but crickets chirping when
NA> it comes to reports of viruses or any remotely-nefarious actions
NA> caused by my doing.

NA> Thank you. I welcome any comments or suggestions to help me better
NA> publish products that will not cause turmoil or anguish.
