You say potato, etc..
Fact of the matter is CP437/IBMPC will not display Russian characters properly,
whether they're UTF-8 or not. The only somewhat possible way for him to read it
properly would be to change his default encoding to CP866 or KOI8-R, and even
then there is no guarantee that the translation from UTF-8 will work as
expected.
