Yes, if it's a "hot" serial number, SIO will deliberately mess with the
connection, such as slowing it down or dropping characters.  If you attempt to
use a "hot" key with VMODEM (SIO/VMODEM use the same key), it will not connect
to another system using VMODEM with the same key.

I'd heard a few years back that Ray Gwinn was thinking about making SIO open
source, but never heard anything back about that.
