BA> Most places that are so far ahead of the US in broadband access are more
BA> densely populated. Broadband is *never* going to get out to rural America
BA> except for satellite links, which are too pricey for me
BA> and I suspect for a lot of other folks.
The problem is money-if a company thinks it'll take a loss, they won't do it.
It's not that it's impossible for you, even in a rural area, to get it. My
parents, when they moved to Nevada, called the phone company to get a hardline
put in. The phone company sent out an engineer, who drew up plans to lay a
line, then the company hooked up a line to the nearest CO six miles away. <G>
But you're right-if you live in a truly rural area in the US, you're stuck with
dialup or pricey satellite Internet.
