Although we nevr met, rarely was there a time when I didn't spend at least an
hour speaking to him on the phone, and that was quite often.  He was a big help
to me and when he passed, his son called me to let me know so I could post the
sad news in FN_SYSOP.  I considered Bob a dear friend.

I can see it happening that way.  Memory fades with time and it was probably
the way you stated.  He told me about it over the phone years ago, so I have no
clear recollection of it.

The first call I received from him was when I was elected R19EC back in the
late Nineties.  It had to be a Kodak moment for me when he told me who he was
and that he didn't know whether to congratulate me or offer his condolences.
Either one would have been accurate.
