HS> I just dropped my uucp account for newsgroups (was getting a

HS> program availabe to get newsgroups off the net for my BBS
HS> (EleBBS).
if you are running OS/2 and Jason Fesler's GIGO, then you can also use souper
to pull the news into .BAG files for GIGO to gate to fido echomail format and
then your regular tosser to toss them just like echomail... if you have a NNTP
feed (pushed to you) and a fulltime connection, the GIGOSMTP package has a
NNTPD in it that you run just like you would the SMTPD...
i use this stuff but not the newsgroup stuff... been gating email feeds for
quite a while... there are three readonly OS2 echos that i gate into fidonet
from yahoogroups... i also have the ability to pull news from a german (IIRC)
news server but can't allow any of my users to post via that path... most news
feeds, these days, require you to pull the news and many are set up for one
user usage...
you'd have to talk with whomever you decide to go with as your feed to find out
if you can let your users post to those groups you get... supernews is one that
comes to mind... most are also commercial ventures due to the large volume of
traffic... of course, there are also the private newsservers like what
microsoft runs... again, without talking to them to find out for sure, i don't
know that your users can post back...
so, basically, what we end up with is a majority of oneway gating... pull the
news in and post it to the echo and then the users can chat in the echo about
all of it but those posts they write don't get back out to the group...
dunno of this helps or not... maybe in some little way, it does...
