on your own system, the tearline and everything after it can be torn off and
not displayed at all... that information, however, may be needed to be stored
somewhere so that it might be used with a reply to get the reply back to the
originator (ie: private netmail reply)...

it has been common practise to retain that info as well as the control line
info and simply not display the control line info unless the user specifically
toggled it on...

by not retaining that info, users can't tell if the message is from someone
local (on the same board) or in some far away place... this is one reason why
it has been kept and displayed to the users...
