The general consensus as I understand it is that there is no such thing as too
much filtration. It *is* possible to have water flow currents that are
uncomfortable and too strong for your fish. The threshold depends a lot on the
specific fish that you have in the aquarium. Some prefer calmer water, others
prefer strong currents to swim and play in.
