Well .. the first thing I would to is get a few really good books .. and read
them .. cover to cover ... after you do that .. get a few more books .. and
read them cover to cover .. than when you feel like you can handle picking up
what you need to start a salt water aquarium ... get a few books and read about
it .. :) ..
seriously .. running a fresh water tank is nothing compared to running a salt
tank ... I went from fresh water to a reef .. and was totally blown away with
all the needed hardware and knowledge it takes to keep salt water tanks
alive ... I was able to keep the reef alive ... but I did make several mistakes
because I did not have the knowledge in the beginning ...
A reef tank is easier to maintain than a FO tank (Fish only) .. I would highly
recommend a FOWLR .. (Fish Only with Live Rock) ... even know you are not
planning on a reef setup at this point .. the live rock will help keep the
chemistry stable and help keep the tank clean ... that way you only have to do
your weekly/biweekly water changes of 15 to 20% ...
I can help you where I can .. and I am more than willing to off you any advice
that I can ...
