Last Monday -- as well as today -- I conducted a 50% water change.
It seems that no matter how pure I try to keep the water, the reddish-brown
algae eventually still takes hold. It's been exactly three weeks since I
performed a major scrub-down of the rocks, and everything is once again
covered with a thin film of the reddish-brown algae. The regular green algae
is also starting to grow, but if the past is any indication, it will
eventually be taken over by the other algae.
For the time being, the mbunas are enjoying their daily algae feast as they
pick at the rocks. As I've mentioned before, they eat both the reddish-brown
algae and the green algae without hesitation.
Today also marks day number 18 since Mama Mbuna spawned. Going by her
history, I suspect that her time of release is very near -- probably within
the next 1 to 3 days, as she is now hanging out in the very same little cave
where she released her last spawn. She's got quite a bulge in her throat. I
wouldn't be surprised if I woke up tomorrow morning to discover that she has
already begun to release her fry.
