It's a mess. There is a pain in the ass province in Canada, Quebec, the French speaking one. They say that Quebec represents ~ 20% of the Canadian population... though not all people in Quebec don't speak French the ones that don't are more than likely not happy. The rest of Canada has bilingual this and that... Quebec... It's illegal to have your sign in both French and English.
Squeaky wheel gets the oil... Quebec complains all the time, and they want to separate and form their own country... So... Because of Quebec you must be bilingual to be employed in certain federal positions... Even if that position is in Alberta... Alberta is Canada's Texas... and you'd be hard pressed to find someone French speaking there. But all Provincial laws have to be written in both languages.
Ottawa, in efforts to keep Quebec in the fold, sends 10s of Billion of dollars from Alberta to Quebec... This is called transfer payments... Money goes from the ones that have to the ones that don't, or in Quebec's case, the ones that piss and moan.
Alberta has been waiting for Quebec to approve a pipeline to continue through their province so that Alberta can send their product to market on that side of the world.. but they refuse to. Quebec will buy their oil and gas from Venezuela... refuse to help Alberta with the pipeline... But take 10s of Billions in transfer payments.
Great news... Western Canada is Conservative... Canada didn't get their constitution until the 80's... and when they drafted it they put in language that would allow Quebec to exit if they could muster the votes... Well, the west is looking at that clause and may be voting to leave.
Referendum in Alberta may happen in the next few months... Saskatchewan may be next... These 2 provinces are oil producers. BC is talking about it as well. BC would be important because its on the Pacific coast. Manitoba is the last western province.
Anyway... Quebec is the loudest opponent to Alberta leaving mainly because they'll miss Alberta's welfare checks..
Canada as we have known it may not be in the months and years coming. I don't think Ottawa was expecting this... But there has been a disconnect with Ottawa and the west since I can remember.
I hope that if the west separates from the east it becomes a republic. On the political side of things I hope that it uses a more US approach rather than a parliamentarian style... Like the US, in Canada, we have senators... but unlike the US, Canada appoints them based political reasons and not with the will of the people. I hope that they draft a constitution that minimizes government and maximizes individual rights.
I don't follow Canadian politics like I do American, I have my hands full with US news and I don't want to add to my busy schedule... But what I have learned in the last election cycle was that Alberta's Premier is spectacular... Trump 3.0... She has a vagina strong enough to take whatever Ottawa and the Globalist through her way.
There are people with TDS in Canada at levels never seen anywhere else. I think Trump's off the cuff comment about Canada becoming the 51st state cost the conservatives the election.
We have what we have now... Though the west is a better 51st state... Shut the Phuck up... and let things play out.
BTW, I get to vote on the coming referendum and I will be voting to separate... Then I'll drop the mic and wait for my 3rd passport.
Anyway, @Ron... you don't have to respond... The world we grew up in does not exist anymore.
