Exactly my point.

And there is no evidence that Floyd counterfeited anything. He is
accused of passing a counterfeit note -- which could easily have been by
accident. Nothing has come out since to imply otherwise.

I am not arguing that counterfeiting is harmless, but that is not what
Floyd was suspected of. Passing a counterfeit bill is not a serious
offense until it is proven that it was with knowledge of it being
counterfeit.
