Hello Everybody,
Another statue of Christopher Columbus bit the dust.
This one thrown into a river. After being toppled and
dismembered. By no less than 300 active participants.
Time to replace the federal holiday in his name replaced
with something far more appropriate. Which several states,
and scores of cities, have already done. What name did
these states and municipalities choose? Most of them have
chosen Indigenous Peoples' Day.
Time for the rest of the country to get on board. No excuse
for any more delay. Sure, Thomas Jefferson once proclaimed that
"All men are created equal." He was wrong. Just like Columbus.
We are all equal. Men and women, black and white, young and old.
We should have listened to Jesse Jackson when he told the truth
to the American people at the Democratic National Convention years
ago - "I am somebody!"
Lemme tell you something, Mr. Jackson -
"We are somebody!"
We are somebody. Each and every one of us, without exception.
Columbus set sail to find a New World. Enslaved all the indigenous
people he found in a vain effort to find gold, committing the first
act of genocide in the Americas.
His statue deserved to be removed. Although it should have been
done in a much more civilized manner. But other statues of his likeness
remain, and need to be removed. Sooner, rather than later.
This would make the world a far better place than it is today.

If it doesn't get all over the place, it doesn't belong in your face.
