Some have a view that denigrating white people by calling them hick or <insert
racial term here> isn't racial. No one ever applies the word 'hick' toward
Italians or Koreans. It's also class warfare, but that's another topic. I've
heard members of the leftist press attack white people and then claim it'll
never be racial because caucasians hold institutional power. What people say to
justify racism blows me away.
A search for 'white institutional power' yielded gobs of results and a top
result is an op-ed that discusses this. Little did I know how this vicious
fallacy was born in the seventies yet lives on today:

My apologies for assuming. I truly hope you and family are safe and healthy.

I really doubt that. Try calling someone a hick in casual parlance and report
back if it goes well for you. Be sure to pick someone bigger than you. That
would be a good test.
In 2008/9, around the time of Obama's first days of presidency, the leftist
press coined the term 'post-racial America' to describe the country who had
elected him. It was short-lived as little time passed before we witnessed a
monumental decay of racial harmony unseen in the modern era. No one used that
term very long and I would surmise most people, if asked, would say 'oh yeah, I
forgot about that. Wait, when was that again?'
The leftist press discovered their capitalistic niche for hate & rage
reporting. As a result they've decomposed into op-ed hell. Fueled by them,
racism is here to stay, contrived or genuine.
Fortunately for us, the press no longer steers election results like they did
in the past. Unfortunately, they've held their power in ways arguably more
destructive. The press does more harm than good.
