That's because you are looking at this from the wrong angle.
The Leftie playbook's #1 "scheme" is take a crisis and exploit it. "We know
that <whatever> is happening. Give up more of your freedom and we will make
you safe."
Of course, the Lefties can never make you safe. They are, without exception,
completely incompetant. But having given more of your freedom to the gov't,
they have more control over you - which is what *their* goal is.
Letting the criminals go is just the Lefties thinking ahead. How many freedoms
will you give up to have them keep you "safe" from the criminals that they let
go?
