As many readers of this phlog know, I develop a gopher,
finger, gemini, telnet, http client named Bombadillo[1].

I had been made aware, many months back, that someone had
packaged it for the ArchLinux AUR[2] repository/package
manager. That was exciting and I listed it on the website
so folks could know it was available.

Fast forward to earlier in the week and I get an e-mail
from a nice person letting me know they had packaged it for
Void Linux's XBPS[3] package management system. Also really
cool, so I went to add it to the website as well.

That got me thinking... is it anywhere else? I checked
haiku ports hoping to see it, but no dice. So I just ran
a search via the duck. I found that nice people had made
packages for GNU Guix[4], OpenPorts[5] (for OpenBSD), and
Homebrew[6] (generally for OSX).

This is so cool! I write a lot of software. Most of it,
Bombadillo included, I write for me... as something I want
to use. Most of the time I forget that other people use
some of it and it is really cool to see people be excited
enough about it to package it for a system they use. So,
to all the folks out there that create packages for the
various systems we all enjoy so much: thank you!

As a cool little bonus, homebrew displays stats for each
package and I was able to see that 89 people installed
Bombadillo in the last year. That is also so cool! Being
on gopher, and now gemini, I often visit the same haunts
(bongusta for gopher, spacewalk and capcom for gemini)
that you forget there are more people out there writing
and reading on these protocols (I can't think of 89 people
who I see pop up on the places I visit and even if I could
I know for a fact they dont all use Bombadillo, so it is
also cool to be reminded that the small-net is maybe larger
than we sometimes think it is and that there are more
people that just want to share and communicate with each
other as people without all of the commercial bs that so
often plagues the human experience these days.

Anyway, I am going to take the baby for a walk out in the
heat (wow it is hot out today... we'll make it a short
walk). Have a good day gopherspace.
