RIP WS Merwyn
2019-03-19 10:30pm

I found out today that my favorite poet died over the weekend.
For those that do not know him, I highly recommend reading some
of his works.

W.S. Merwyn died at the age of 91 on March 15th, 2019. He appare-
ntly died peacefully in his sleep at his home on his land in
Hawaii.

I have one of his poems on my main page at the Zaibatsu (a favor-
ite of mine)[0]. I will post an excerpt of a different poem of
his that I read in an article about his death[1] (that I highly
recommend reading):

- - -

now it is clear to me that no leaves are mine
no roots are mine
that wherever I go I will be a spine of smoke in the forest
and the forest will know it
we will both know it.

There have been a number of deaths in the last decade. Many arti-
sts that I have loved have passed in that time. Somehow this one
has left me saddened in a way similar to another writer I loved;
Ray Bradbury. They both had unique effects on my life and I think
the world is dimmer to have lost them both, but at least they
have left behind a body of work to be remembered by.
