	Usually this time of year, like most, I like to reflect back on the
	past 12 months. Sometimes it's a simple list, sometimes it is a
	total core dump. This year, the Japanese concept of "Naikan" crossed
	my path and I found it interesting so I will be using something
	similar to this method this year.

	"Naikan (Japanese: 内観, ) is a structured method f
	self-reflection developed by Yoshimoto Ishin (1916–1988) in the
	1940s. The practice is based around asking oneself three questions
	about a person in one's life:

	* What did I receive from this person?
	* What did I return to this person?
	* What troubles, worries, unhappiness did I cause this person?"

	Since I am so quick to forget these day, it is good that I keep a
	journal. There are also the pictures that I have taken, text and
	voice calls on my phone, and any social media entries (gopher,
	mastodon, matrix, etc.) that I can reference.

	I don't mean for this type of reflection to be any kind of
	exhaustive record keeping of my past year, rather, just an overall
	view of my past 12 months in this human existence. It also helps
	me to think of others instead of being so wrapped up in myself.

	I encourage any of you in SDF-land or out there in the greater
	gopherspace to take a time out and reflect on the past year and those
	who we have connected with. Perhaps even try the 3 simple Naikan
	questions. 2021 will soon be a thing of the past and will never
	happen again, except for what we can recall in our memories.
