I've been working on another loadout case for stuff I do or work on.
They are usually used, repurposed briefcases I find at Goodwill or
garbage sales. I find them to be very useful, especially for con-
taining tools or parts for projects or keeping things together and
moved around. I got sick of spending way too much time trying to
work on something or do something only to waste my time searching
for a cable or a necessary tool or component.
The current loadout is basically a gaming loadout. It is still a
work in progress. I have a cheap Chinese 15.6" LED HDTV that I
picked up from woot stuffed in the case with a Steam Link, PSP2000,
and accessories. The TV has all kinds of input options and can even
run from 12V DC, if necessary. The speakers are loud enough and
also has a headphone jack. I mounted it using a detachable VESA
bracket screwed into the back folder pockets as well as some hook
and loop fasteners glued on with Liquid Nails adhesive (on the
pockets, not on the TV.)
The Steam Link was from the clearance sale that Steam put on to get
rid of them awhile back. It's basically a small appliance that
allows you to stream your Steam games from your gaming rig to your TV.
The box still works very well with ethernet to connect to
my old gaming rig in the game room. I can use either the Steam
Controller or PSP (with FuSa Gamepad homebrew) or both for the
gamepad or half a keyboard for games with mouse and WASD/custom key
mapping. There are custom apps that can be run on the Steam Link
but I have not ventured into this yet. I think there might also
be a way to stream over the internet as well.
My old PSP2000 is also in there. It is loaded with custom
firmware and allows me to play games on the TV as well as load my
UMD backups from a microSD to Memory Stick adapter (2x32GB.) I
have built up quite a library of UMD for cheap when Sony
discontinued the format. I made backups of all of them, even the
movies. They run much faster on the SD and use less power than UMD.
I think that the PSP2000 would only allow video to display on a TV
and not games if running the official firmware. The custom one
allows me to run both. Unfortunately, you lose at least 1/3 of the
screen for games. Videos and the menu can run full screen. The TV
in the loadout case is still bigger than the PSP screen, so it's
still good. | |
The reason for all of this is because I needed a way to get my
game on anywhere in the house where I could quickly set up, tear
down, and not lose any parts until the next time...not that I game
all that much these days. Yeah, kinda silly, but a fun, quick
project for COVID-19 downtime. Also, I'll be at the ready
when life goes back in session and I have some time to kill during
server maintenance windows and go-live standby times.
Here are some pics of the work in progress. There are still some
things I might add or modify, but it is functional.
