Since this whole COVID-19 thing, I've been walking more around my | |
neighborhood and at the park down the street. Other neighbors have | |
been doing that as well, keeping with the social distancing and all. | |
Some are even walking around with masks. I think that's the latest | |
suggestion from the CDC. Masks for being in public. I think they | |
said something about if it is difficult to do the 6 feet distance, | |
like at the grocery. I wear a mask if I have to get supplies but | |
not usually at the park. | |
With all of the scheduled walking I've been doing, it starts to | |
become too routine so I have been changing it up with Nordic Walking. | |
It's basically walking with ski or hiking poles using a certain | |
technique. It looks like it was created to help cross country | |
skiers train during the off-season. | |
I've been Nordic Walking for a few years and it's a good way to get | |
the blood flowing and to have a rhythm. I get a much better workout | |
in a 20 minute Nordic walk than I do with a regular walk, since it | |
also works out the upper body and uses more muscles. It's also | |
pretty easy to do once you get the technique down. | |
Today, I did Nordic Walking for an hour this morning and also did | |
some Nordic inline skating (rollerblading), which is basically | |
skating with the poles and the same technique. I was only able to go | |
up and down my street twice before calling it quits. I haven't | |
strapped on my skates in over a year and even then, it was just for | |
a short time. I should keep at it so I can add that to my routine. | |
I'm definitely gonna feel this in the morning! | |
So yeah, if you wanna change up your walking and have some hiking | |
poles, give Nordic Walking a try! If you don't have poles, you can | |
find them at local sporting good. The ones I have are just basic | |
collapsible trekking poles, nothing fancy. If you are using them on | |
pavement, I recommend getting a pair with the rubber feet. Also, | |
make sure the pole length is appropriate for you. Here is a site | |
