Yeah, I'm listening to aNONradio and in COM while driving, but
currently parked since I am in the queue at the car wash. There are
7 cars in front of me and the car wash is one of those mechanical
numbers that I usually have to finish up afterwards since it tends to
miss spots. At least it is cheap and I don't mind finishing up.
Oh, and I'm also drafting a phlog phost. Uh, yeah, I might have a
problem ;) | |
Typical Sunday...errands, yard work, chillaxin', getting ready for
the dreaded Monday. Lather. Rinse. Repeat.
OK, Im in the car wash show now with aNONradio playing classical.
Good sound track for the water show. I will sit back and enjoy...
...later... | |
Earlier this month, Jirka wrote in his phlog about PIM (Personal
Information Management) applications.[1] PIM applications have
always been a "must have" application, but unfortunately in recent
years, it has been a struggle for me to keep this and my PIM
system consistent. | |
My PIM system started off as generic analog paper day runner planner.
This evolved into a Franklin Planner and then a Franklin Covey system.
After that, I went digital with the HP OmniGo 100, Casio Cassiopeia,
and then the PalmOS devices.
The PIMs needed to have at minimum, a calendar, address book, a place
for notes, and a to do list. The evolution of my PIM kept improving
until after I stopped using native palm devices with the advent of
the Nokia N900. | |
The N900 was a great maemo/linux device that was like having a
pocketable computer that could make phone calls and do text messaging.
It also ran GarnetVM, which is basically PalmOS in a virtual machine.
I figured that I could just transition to GarnetVM and have my cell
and PDA in one device. | |
It did work pretty well with the PIM stuff and other Palm applications.
I could do hotsyncs and even access GarnetVM + maemo on my laptop
via VNC! | |
Eventually, something happened or got corrupted so I couldn't run
GarnetVM and had to reinstall. At that point, I couldn't really
trust that system so much, so I started to research what the cool
kids were doing at that time with PIM systems.
At that time, there was a lot going on in regards to time management,
but the PIM thing seemed to be slipping away. I tried a bunch of the
life hack stuff, Getting Things Done (even in Palm), Pomodoro, etc. I
even tried the gamified stuff, like HabitRPG/Habitica and the Epic Win
apps (tomasino - this reminded me of your recent phlog phost regarding
living as an RPG.) [2] Neat stuff, but I was not feeling as organizied
as I used to be. | |
Now I'm at the point where my PIM system feels like a kludgey hack job.
I'm basically living in vimwiki with plugins for notes, calendar, and
tasks. I don't keep a current address book and have been keeping my
contacts list minimal with my archive living on my nextcloudpi server
at home. I was using taskwarrior, but got lost with setting up the
server. I thought about syncing even at home, but with the privacy
issues these days, I don't really trust the apps that would house my
data. | |
For some reason, the terminal seems like a viable option. I
need something that can work cross platform or accessible across
different platforms and is reliable. At one point, I thought about
rolling my own, but was lacking in the time and skills.
I could go back and sync an old palm device and have yet another
device as part of my every day carry...not sure I want to go there.
Palm can sync with the nextcloudpi, but that can be messy too. I
think I just need to take the time to think this through and
commit to a single system, even if it is analog paper.
