Waiting for 1900 to roll around and decided to kill some time
at a Starbucks. I am not usually fond of grocery store
coffee shops, except for getting coffee to go, but this one
is ok. The seating area is tucked to the side and is pretty
clean. I was able to get a table so I could type.
A few weeks ago, I finished reading the book, _Ready Player
One_ and also watched the movie on Blu-Ray. I mentioned it
in a previous phlog post. [1] I loved the book! The movie
was just ok. The story in the movie was a bit different than
the book, which I anticipated. Of course, I enjoyed the book
more than the movie. The movie was fun though. I actually
watched it twice. Once on the TV and the second time using
my Sony HMD (Head-Mounted Display.) Unfortunately, I got the
non-3D Blu-Ray since it was on sale. I should have bought
the 3D one. 3D in the HMD just seems to fit this movie. So
much eye candy! | |
Having read the book and watching the movie has put me in a
more cybah mood. I have been spending way too much time
messing around with Anarchy Arcade [2][3] again. It is basically a
3D desktop GUI for Windows. You can pick a map and start
placing 3D objects that are linked to files, applications,
video games, web sites, videos, pr0n, music or whatever you
have on your computer. You go through the map kinda like a
First Person Shooter video game and launch from the object
you mapped the software or media to. I had previously used the
legacy or early access addition, but it looks like they have a
new "redux" edition, which has improved the application quite a
bit. | |
For instance, I picked a map called "Cyberpunk 3"[4] and started
customizing the map with a 3D arcade cabinet that I linked to
The Forest game from my Steam Catalog. The banner and screen
of the arcade cabinet automatically shows the graphics for
the game since I took it from my Steam Library. I also set a
computer monitor to launch Cygwin, but had to download the
graphic to customize the screen. The map for Cyberpunk 3 is
pretty big and you can put so many shortcuts there. I
basically organize each room based on what task I am doing.
I have a room for research with applications I use when
looking stuff up and other research files. I have a room for
gopher stuff. I purposely put video games and Netflix on the
far side of the map so I don't get distracted right away.
Not sure if any of this makes much sense, but I guess
checking out the website and the video would make more sense.
This 3D launcher is very resource intensive and seems to go
in the total opposite direction of how I usually compute, but
it makes for an interesting experience, especially with an
HMD. I thought about making a localized version of my gopher
construct in Anarchy Arcade just for kicks. Like have a text
file from one of my phlog entries linked to a virtual tablet
that sits on a virtual desk in one of the buildings in Chiba
City (that's what I call my Cyberpunk 3 map) and build out from
there. Rather than having a text file structure, map it out in
a 3D room with 3D objects and see it from that perspective.
I think that might be how the creators of GopherVR might have
envisioned the 3D gopherspace. (I have yet to try GopherVR,
but have seen pics.) Maybe Anarchy Arcade can be used to that
extent. Oh, I think it does have the option to allow visitors
to your desktop map. There are probably security concerns that
I would have to look into before even entertaining the
possibility of allowing visitors. It could even be an option
for the whole group cybah video watching that I have seen on
mastodon (#wearenameless or something?) Watch The Matrix in
the Matrix with 3D avatars and voice chat for discussion and
banter. That'd be so cool! Or even virtual Rocky Horror with
all of the alternative dialog and avatar acting and singing! Maybe
something like this is already being done, like in Second Life
or something. | |
I actually did log in to my Second Life account for a bit with
all of this cybah inspiration. It's still there and it still
has many users with surreal and pornographic avatars. I decided
to not explore for too long before I got sucked into that world
again. I wonder if the Second Life viewer can access gopherspace.
I can think of all kinds of uses for Anarchy Arcade, but it takes
a bit of work to build it out and get it working properly.
It could even be used to build a graphical representation of a mind
palace, like the one Hannibal Lector uses to remember things.
I thought about making one of the houses in my "Suburbia" map as
a place to visit pictures and obituraries of loved ones that
have passed on...yeah, kinda morbid... If I'm going that route,
maybe I can have a house for dead rock stars with their pictures,
youtube videos, mp3s, articles, all over the house, kinda like a
museum. So many possibilities!
There is probably all sorts of tracking being done with this
launcher...I haven't really looked, but it is a cool
alternative to the 2D desktop in Windows...especially if you
have the resources and wanna be all cybah 'n shit.
