Notes:

In every form of the regular verbs, I have separated a root from a stem suffix
and an ending (if it exists) with hyphen marks.

Verbs mie, je, oglda and pi require an accusative
(eg. mam ksik, jesz kolacj, oglda telewizj, pijesz herbat).

nouns
imi - name (n)
chleb - bread (m)
maso - butter (n)
szynka - ham (f)
herbata - tea (f)
telewizja - TV (programme) (f)

Only imi may be a difficult word to inflect.
Look at the table and compare it with that in
Lesson 4 Grammar 7.

adverbs
codziennie - every day
rano - in the morning
wieczorem - in the evening
potem - then, later, afterwards

other words
oraz - and
na, po, z - (these are prepositions, I do not want to translate them now)

expressions
mam na imi ... - my name is ...
mwi po polsku - I speak Polish
po polsku - Polish, in Polish
po angielsku - English, in English
po hiszpasku - Spanish, in Spanish
po rosyjsku - Russian, in Russian
na niadanie - for breakfast
chleb z masem i szynk
= chleb z masem i z szynk
- bread and butter and ham
po poudniu - in the afternoon

Prepositions can be omitted so that they would not be used
twice. For example:

mwi po polsku i po angielsku or mwi po polsku i angielsku

chleb z masem i z szynk or chleb z masem i szynk

but you cannot delete a preposition in the following expressions

mwi po polsku i mwi po angielsku

chleb z masem i chleb z szynk

If you want to say that you have/eat/take/get/etc.
something1 and something2 together, you should use the preposition z,
eg. je chleb z masem = to eat bread and butter together
(after putting some butter on bread).

Dialogue 2

A: - Jak masz na imi?
M: - Monika. A ty?
A: - Nazywam si Adam. Studiuj histori.
M: - Ja studiuj fizyk, a Robert studiuje medycyn.
A: - Co studiuje Barbara?
M: - Geografi.
M: - Co jesz na niadanie?
A: - Buk z demem, a potem jajecznic.
M: - Ja jem chleb, jajko, ty ser i pij kaw.

Vocabulary

studiowa [s t u d j o w a ] - study (imperf, I, IV, requires accusative)
historia [h' i s t o r j a] - history (f)
fizyka [f' i z y k a] - physics (f)
medycyna - medicine (f)
geografia [g e o g r a f j a] - geography (f)
buka - bread roll (f)
jajko - egg (n)

Pay attention to the pronuciation of studiowa, historia and
geografia.

Since Polish d and t do not have their soft
equivalents, the groups di and ti are pronounced as [d j] and [t j]
respectively. Examples: studiujesz kardiologi [s t u d j u j e sz &nbsp&nbsp
k a r d j o l o g j e] - you study cardiology, tiosiarczan [t j o s i a r cz a n]
- thiosulphate.

In the words of foreign origin which end with -ia, the i is pronounced
as j. For example: historia [h' i s t o r j a], geografi
[g e o g r a f j e]. Such nouns will be considered in lesson 9.
