The Apple Power Macintosh 8100 computers continue to set new Macintosh speed
and performance standards, which is tremendous news for publishers, engineers,
and multimedia professionals. In fact, current generations of Power Macintosh
8100 computers offer performance increases of up to 30 percent over the
previous 8100 models.
There's the Power Macintosh 8100/100, running at 100 megahertz; the
Power Macintosh 8100/100AV, which adds advanced video capabilities; and the
Power Macintosh 8100/110, the fastest Macintosh computer ever.
These computers run virtually all Macintosh applications. In addition,
they run the hundreds of applications accelerated for Power Macintosh computers
at two to six times the speed of previous Macintosh computers.
The 8100 computers can also run MS-DOS and Windows applications using
SoftWindows software, available from Insignia Solutions.
All three computers are based on the PowerPC 601 microprocessor
codeveloped by Apple, IBM, and Motorola. The 8100/110 runs at a breathtaking
110 megahertz.
The 8100 computers support all Apple and most third-party displays,
including monochrome, color, VGA, and SVGA. They support up to 16.7 million
colors on Apple color displays of up to 17 inches. With the addition of 2
megabytes of VRAM (to total 4 megabytes), the 8100/100 and 8100/110 support
16.7 million colors on displays of up to 21 inches.
These Power Macintosh 8100 computers are easy to expand because each
includes three NuBus slots. They also provide GeoPort telecommunications,
which allows you to integrate them with telephone services. The series also
offers speech-recognition and text-to-speech capabilities. The 8100/100AV adds
S-video and composite video input as well as output for use with televisions,
video cameras, and video recorders.
The Power Macintosh 8100 computers are designed to meet the most
demanding power, speed, and expandability requirements of publishing,
engineering, and multimedia customers.
