The Power Macintosh 7100/80 and Power Macintosh 7100/80AV are the expandable,
mainstream members
of the high-performance line of Macintosh computers that use PowerPC chip
technology. They're built with the speed, expandability, and networking
required for word processing, desktop publishing, complex spreadsheets, and
databases.
These computers run virtually all existing Macintosh applications. In
addition, they run the hundreds of applications accelerated for Power Macintosh
computers at two to six times the speed of previous Macintosh computers. And
the 7100/80 and 7100/80AV can run up to 40 percent faster than the previous
7100 models. Both computers can also run MS-DOS and Windows applications using
SoftWindows software.
Based on the 80-megahertz PowerPC 601 microprocessor co-developed by
Apple, IBM, and Motorola, the Power Macintosh 7100/80 and 7100/80AV both have
built-in, floating-point math coprocessors. They provide built-in, high-speed
Ethernet networking as well.
Both computers support all Apple and most third-party displays,
including monochrome, color, VGA, and SVGA. Support for up to 32,000 colors on
Apple color displays (up to 16- or 17-inch) is included with the 7100/80. The
7100/80AV (and the 7100/80 with the addition of 1 megabyte of VRAM) supports
display of more than 16 million colors.
Both computers feature easy expandability via three NuBus slots, and
you can run two simultaneous displays with each.
The 7100/80 and 7100/80AV support GeoPort telecommunications, which
allows you to integrate computers with telephone services. Both also provide
speech-recognition and text-to-speech capabilities. The 7100/80AV adds S-video
and composite video input as well as output for use with televisions, video
cameras, and video recorders.
The Power Macintosh 7100/80 and Power Macintosh 7100/80AV are designed
to meet your needs with high performance and expandability in a platform that's
built for the future.
