La plupart des gens n'ont jamais entendu parler du gopher
comme systeme d'information, ou n'en ont entendu parler que
comme etant un ancetre obsolete du WWW.
Gopher en fait un peu plus, il s'agit d'un moyen de representer
le contenu sous forme hierarchique (et non bordelique comme
je dirais pour le WWW :)). Un gopherspace se presente plutot
comme un immense filesystem mondial.
Pour parcourir (des heures durant) le gopherspace, il faut
un client gopher. Le plupart des browsers WWW contiennent
un client gopher rudimentaire.
- IE knows what gopher is, but works badly.
- Mozilla include it again (but not yet perfect...)
To get a nice tree view using mozilla:
type about:config into the address bar and change
the variable "network.dir.format" to "3".
!! It will change the format for FTP too !!
- Netscape 4.x has the best gopher support.
- mMosaic: I didn't test it, it should work, but it is
so obsolete as a WWW browser...
The best way to browse the gopherspace is to use a _true_
gopher client like:
- gopher (on the command line)
- FORG (graphical gopher client writen in python)
it works well.
Je ne peux aider les utilisateurs windows a trouver un client
gopher valable pour leur systeme. Cependant, en cherchant un
peu sur le web, il y a moyen d'en trouver pas mal.
