No. The documented method would be like so:
cmdkey ' '

But some other syntaxes produce the same result.

No, I see no reason why that would be. The "menu" function is just for
displaying the menu (e.g. ANSI) file to the user and has nothing to do with the
command key parsing/processing. If an option/command doesn't work, I suspect
something else is the matter.
