Subj : Compile directories

Just to confirm something:  When I run 'gmake', it creates four
directories:

       gcc.linux.exe.debug
       gcc.linux.lib.debug
       gcc.linux.obj.debug
       gcc.linux.obj.debug-mt

The last two are not required on a production system.  As I understand,
they contain the individual object files (and dependancies) and aren't
needed.  Is this correct?

I understand that their removal would force 'make' to recompile everything
from scratch for every minor update.  I'm not planning to remove them or
anything.
