From the same machine as the BBS sits on.
But doesn't the page call have to go out to a DNS machine and then back
to me? Unless there is a HOSTS file, that is. (There isn't one)
If I were using localhost as an address, I wouldn't expect it to even
need to be connected to the internet at all. (But that's not the case
either)
Clearly something is at work here that I don't fully understand.

I did get an acknowledgment from them... so far.
